YouTube Video VVVud0dBczM3Z3ZCRC0taEMtNFAxMmlBLjZCUDMyVzRyT2Zn The Polaris or North Star can be seen from this lookout viewpoint, 'Mirador de la Degollada de las Yeguas', in the south of Gran Canaria. The stargazing point in Canarias is located less than 10 km from Maspalomas, at Barranco de Fataga, on the GC-60 road to Fataga village. You can also book a guided stargazing tour in Gran Canaria to spot more stars with a professional guide. Here's a link to book a stargazing tour ( I receive a small commission on your purchase through this link):
https://www.getyourguide.com/en-gb/gran-canaria-l418/stargazing-tc1036/?partner_id=M5CWGCB&utm_medium=online_publisher&cmp=YouTubeThe North Star is sometimes also called the Pole Star or Polar Star. The North Star is located 4.228.946.521.243.618 km, or more than 400 light-years away. Can you even imagine that? But you can see it shine with your naked eyes, from this astronomical viewpoint at 'Mirador de la Degollada de las Yeguas' in Gran Canaria around 22.00 hrs or 10 PM.The Canary Islands are a great destination for astrotourism. In fact, 46% of Gran Canaria has been declared a StarLight Tourist Destination. Stargazing conditions, such as the sky quality, minimal light pollution, and infrastructure for astronomical observation, are excellent for astrotourism at altitudes between 600 and 1,800 meters in the Canary Islands. Gran Canaria is a certified Starlight Destination, making it a premier location for astrotourism. The island's Biosphere Reserve is recognized by the Starlight Foundation for its commitment to protecting dark skiesIn this video, I explain how you can see the North Star from this viewpoint at Barranco de Fataga in Gran Canaria. At this astronomical viewpoint, a tool with a disc is placed to line up with the constellations of the Great Bear and Cassiopeia. You only need to mark the current month you are in.Without this tool at the astronomical lookout point on the way to Fataga, it is said that you can locate Polaris by first looking for the Big Dipper (part of Ursa Major). Here, you need to locate the two stars at the outer edge of its bowl, called Merak and Dubhe, before drawing an imaginary line from Merak through Dubhe and extending it about five times the distance between them. The first moderately bright star you hit is Polaris. But it's much easier to find the North Star using the circles and markers at the astronomical lookout point of 'Mirador Astronómico de la Degollada de las Yeguas', in the south of Gran Canaria!Did you know? The Polar Star appears stationary while other stars seem to revolve around it, because it’s nearly aligned with the Earth’s rotational axis. The Polaris is the star of reference to identify the North, and the North Star can't be seen from the Southern Hemisphere. The pole star shines more than a thousand times brighter than our Sun! And have you seen the North Star somewhere in the world? Share it in the comments! You can read more information about me on https://www.splashpacker.comThanks to Nicola Pavan, Marc Sendra Martorell, Fred Moon, Vashishtha Jogi, Kyle Gregory Devaras,
