At this place in Spain a grand 16th-century Renaissance cathedral was built right in the absolute middle of a massive 8th-century Islamic mosque?Today, I am stepping inside the world-famous Mezquita—the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba. Standing under the endless forest of iconic red-and-white striped stone arches is one of those travel moments that honestly gives you instant goosebumps. Layers of Islamic and Christian history are literally built on top of each other here, making it one of the most architecturally unique and visually stunning places I have ever explored on my solo travels.

The absolute highlight? Walking from the dimly lit, solemn prayer hall of the ancient mosque right into the bright, soaring, gold-trimmed main altar of the cathedral section. Seeing those two completely different worlds collide under one single roof is mind-blowing.📸 QUICK TRAVEL TIP: If you want to experience the Mezquita without the crazy tourist crowds, you can actually enter completely for free from Monday to Saturday between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM! It is a silent visit hour (no large tour groups allowed), which lets you experience the incredible scale of the arches in total peace.🏰 GOOD TO KNOW: Regular tickets cost around €15,- if you miss the early morning free slot. Make sure to stroll through the beautiful Patio de los Naranjos (the orange grove courtyard) outside before you head in—the scent of the orange trees and the view of the massive bell tower framing the sky is spectacular! Drop a comment if this architectural wonder is on your travel bucket list!#mezquita #MezquitaCordoba #MosqueCathedral #mezquitacatedral
